Khalil and I met in an interesting way. I was walking down Broadway and stopped about 10 feet short of him. He was behind a sidewalk vendor's table, watching a friend's table while she was gone and I was stopped up against a building. We made eye contact and before I even asked for a picture, Khalil said, "Go ahead, take a picture." He later explained that he had turned down quite a few other people who requested pictures, which makes me appreciate his picture all the more.
