kitten heels are more comfortable than high heels for sure. i dont mind the trend. it hads the classic feminine touch to outfits without standing out like high heels. and i agree, her dress is stunning
They are a twist of form and function into footwear. They elongate the leg, elevate the body, add grace to the step and elegance to the foot; and are practical enough to step lightly, firmly and rapidly around town in. You can also romp in the grass in a kitten heel, without leaving behind those bunny-poop-like pellets you see after soil irrigation in dog parks. ew.
I am a huge fan of the kitten heel, but I think that it takes a "stronger shoe" to pull it off stylishly. Of this particular sandal, I am not a fan, but of that dress..!
Oh my gosh, that dress is perfection. Kitten heels, I personally love, I love them on me. But...I don't think they suit everyone. People with slender ankles make kitten heels look lovely (that Giovanna up there).
@ The Photodiarist--interesting how you choose the term "cute" as opposed to "elegant" which a higher heel might be described as
@ I'm a mean street kid--a classic feminine touch. Nice to know
@ Nicoloushka--"are practical enough to step lightly, firmly and rapidly around town in." Very interesting. I've photographed Giovanna in a past fashion week also wearing kitten heels and I'm beginning to wonder if it's her way of being practical.
@ Lissy--"slender ankles" now I'm going to be analyzing a girls ankles when she's in kitten heels
@ EVERYONE--while in Stockholm I had a conversation about this very topic with a fashion editor from a major U.S. magazine. She had a really passionate opinion about kitten heels untimeliness, that it was a trend for THIS season...so I thought I'd ask everyone's opinions here.
AH! Giovanna is my favourite! Must admit I'm not a fan of kitten heels, I need either all (4"+) or nothing (flats), and find that kitten heels wear out easier...also, I don't have Giovanna's gorgeous long legs ;) xx
As a teenager, I find kitten heels way more practical. The way someone makes kittens a replacement for 6inchers is with exceptional styling on the rest of the outfit. The dress is AMAZING.
To be perfectly honest, I find it very hard to walk in super high heels. I end up looking like a moron.
I've learned to wear them only when going out to dinner...you walk in , you walk out - DONE! No more weddings or parties in 4"-ers.
So I am THRILLED they are back, if only as a trend. I'm gonna try to scoop up as many different varieties as possible, maybe even 2 or 3 pairs of one thing done really well, so I have backup...
I agree with Ringo- hatred for the kitten heels...nothing but love for kittens! Those little heels make everyone look grandma-ish...not saying they need to be sky high, but short and pointy? No, thanks!
Meanwhile is it a coincidence that two particularly high profile women seem to prefer a lower heel these days? Is that why we're seeing this trend? Carla Bruni and Michelle Obama rarely don anything higher than a kitten.
If the shoe fits....
Personally, I embrace all heels. Some ensembles look better with a kitten and some look better with five inches...
No matter how 'now' they may be, kitten heels are one trend that are never going to convince me. I may have been seduced by the comfortable chicness of harem pants, but I will always be a 'flats for day, heels for night' kind of girl.
I think, like any style choice, it's a personal thing. After suffering many high-heel-related injuries I can fully understand why one might opt for a lower heel.. But ultimately I think that fashion shouldn't be constrained by practicality. If something is fashionable and practical then great, if not then just remember sometimes one has to suffer for beauty.
As for the dress... AMAZING colour, shape, texture. It is perfect for her colouring and her figure, but then again what wouldn't be. X
she is great and a real fashion icon, her dress is stunning and all that, yes we know. but kitten heels never, but never, ever fit with such toe caps. I mean, it looks terribly wrong. rounded caps would have been the best, even for kitten heels.
OMG! I had been dying to see that Alaia dress in red, I had always seen it in black, and it looks gorgeous!! As for kittens, I think you need to have the right kind of silhouette and the right kind of feet to make them help you look good. I was getting used to seeing only people like Franca Sozzani wear them, but now I see Giovanna can pull the whole look together quite well.
I like how demure and feminine they look, but I could personally never wear them. I find the height and heel thickness to be awkward when I wear them. I like a high heel, or no heel (in the form of flats or oxfords).
Giovanna looks wonderful in that dress. Something tells me it may be an Alaia.
I'm not a fan of kitten heels. Either flats or proper heels not something inbetween. Although, thinking about it, I wouldn't mind them if they had a block heel. To me that tiny thin heel just looks kinda tacky. Can't help it.
But Giovanna looks stunning nevertheless. Doesn't she always?
I think if like her you are tall, with lovely skinny legs - kitten heels can look great. But I also think if you don't have legs like that they can be incredibly unflattering and you should stick to a ballet flat if you don't want height. To me, a kitten heel never quite lifts the leg enough for us mere mortals...but if you've got it flaunt it (lucky!).
Lovely. And changed my opinion about a style I’d always considered either immature or too mature (matronly). Sophisticated and intriguing shape – now I want a pair. <3 Altamira – thank you!

I think that they are cute, but I will always prefer a high high heel. Her kittens are lovely, though - and her dress is truly gorgeous.

i've never been a fan of kitten heels...Giovanna actually puts it together well here, but i prefer my sky highs...

Yay!
Frankly, I find kitten heels absolutely revolting--always have, always will. Go high or go home.

I love the dress, not so sure about the shoes though :/

I adore everything about her dress. As always she looks beautiful.

It's not for me. However, I think these are really tasteful and pretty.
I think that if you want to wear shoes like these, you need to have great skinny legs. Photo is great. xx

I don't like them. I think that they create an awkward line and heels should be high.
